About Us



The UCT Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing (established 1999) was a non-profit organization based at the University of Cape Town, School of Management Studies. The Unilever Institute was funded by the Unilever Foundation for Education and Development.


There is a growing awareness that the unique and evolving South African marketplace bears little resemblance to marketing and consumer knowledge in the rest of the world.

In response to this, the UCT Unilever Institute’s mission was to raise the standard of strategic decision-making in South Africa, by bridging the gap between the theory and practice of marketing in the African context, and improving the quality of education and educational material in the field of marketing.
