About Us

Background

The UCT Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing (established 1999) is a non-profit organisation based at the University of Cape Town, School of Management Studies. The Institute is largely funded by the Unilever Foundation for Education and Development.


Why? There is a growing awareness that the unique and evolving South African marketplace bears little resemblance to marketing and consumer knowledge in the rest of the world. In response to this, the UCT Unilever Institute’s mission is to develop and share cutting edge strategic South African marketing insights and understanding.


How? The Institute disseminates the findings of projects through nationwide presentations and workshops and through the sale of project packs.

Our objectives are;

  • To bring together academics, marketing practitioners and researchers to pursue innovative and meaningful research
  • To develop leading edge marketing theory specific to the South African marketplace
  • To provide marketers and marketing students with a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the South African market place
  • To make research available for publication and teaching purposes, or as a basis for inspiring further research
  • To generate funds for further research through sponsorship, partnership and the sale of results.
